Phakalane Golf Estate, a Lifestyle Environment to Call Home

The beautiful Phakalane Golf Estate is located just over 10kms to the north of Gaborone City Centre in the suburb of Phakalane. This leafy neighbourhood offers a complete lifestyle environment with retail centres, medical facilities, nursery, primary and secondary schools, restaurants, a cinema and entertainment and recreational facilities. The area is well known for the affluent lifestyle on offer, boasting many of the capital's top properties.

A little over 30 years ago Phakalane Estates (www.phakalane.com) was founded and the development of this suburb began. During that time, the Phakalane Golf Estate was established, and plots sold quickly to private buyers. The Golf Estate is the only residential golf estate in Botswana and all the homes surround the 18-hole championship golf course. Featuring over 300 residential plots, ranging from 1000m2 to 1400m2 in size, and all located in the secure, gated estate. It has been said that the Golf Estate is the most desirable address in Gaborone, due to the open spaces, luxurious homes, and access-controlled environment. This makes it ideal for families and those who enjoy the outdoor lifestyle.

Historically, Seeff Properties Botswana has been closely associated with being the leading sales and rental agency for homes both within Phakalane suburb and the Golf Estate itself. No other estate agency has sold more houses on the Golf Estate than Seeff Properties. Kim Bekker, Managing Director of Seeff Properties Botswana, reminisces that back when the Golf Estate plots were initially sold the most expensive plot was roughly P 265,000. She recalls that at the time the price was considered "exorbitant" and from its initial offering it was always considered the 'high end'.

Today, an entry level home in the Golf Estate lists for sale with a starting figure of no less than BWP3.5 million - BWP4 million. A quick look through the Golf Estate listed properties on the Seeff website will show the current rentals and sales figures for these beautiful homes.

The most expensive home, to date, that Seeff Properties has sold on the Estate was in 2015 at BWP15 million, at the peak of the property market in Botswana.

Seeff Properties (www.seeff.co.bw) has been able to maintain a strong presence with Golf Estate properties and have invaluable knowledge in this market. Lead agent/specialist, Maria de Angelis is Seeff's primary Golf Estate agent and has built up a strong reputation for insight and knowledge of this market. Maria has, in fact, sold one home three times over during the last 19 years.

Seeff has ten qualified and registered agents who have been able to find the best homes (rentals and sales) to match our clients' needs. Rentals in the Golf Estate range between BWP16,000 for a bungalow/single storey home upward to about BWP35,000.00, giving options between furnished and unfurnished.

At the entrance to the Golf Estate there are 3 and 4-bedroomed Villas to rent which regularly appear on the market. These provide many families and professionals the opportunity to live on the Estate with the convenience of a "lock up and go" property.

Residents of the Golf Estate subscribe to the Phakalane Homeowners Association (PHOA) who manage and control the environment and maintain the common areas enjoyed by residents.

The Golf Estate itself boasts many high-end amenities such as:

  • 18-hole championship golf course
  • Club house with 19th Hole restaurant
  • Cosmopolitan Bar and Restaurant
  • Several international standard conference rooms with various configurations
  • Hotel with panoramic views (www.phakalanehotel.com)
  • Self-catering chalets
  • Health spa
  • Trail road for walkers and joggers
