Ngamiland District, located in northwestern Botswana, is one of the country’s most ecologically diverse and culturally rich regions. It is best known as the home of the world-famous Okavango Delta, a vast inland oasis that supports extraordinary wildlife and attracts visitors from across the globe. The district’s administrative centre is Maun, a bustling tourism hub often referred to as the “gateway to the Delta.” Other notable towns and villages include Gumare, Shakawe, Seronga, and Etsha, each contributing to the district’s cultural and economic landscape. Ngamiland’s key attractions are centered around its natural wonders. The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers mokoro excursions, scenic flights, and premier wildlife viewing. The Moremi Game Reserve, within the Delta, is renowned for its big cats, birdlife, and pristine wilderness. Additional highlights include the Panhandle region, artisanal basket-weaving communities, and rich traditional heritage, making Ngamiland a remarkable and multifaceted destination. The western part of the district is famous for the Tsodilo Hills and the Gcwihaba Caves. In addition to all the wildlife in the district, there are also copper deposits which positively contribute to the economy of the area.
